Explain how and why producers of radio programmes target different audiences. Refer to the Radio 1 Live Lounge to support your answer. (10)

There are a range of reason of how and why producers target different audiences. Radio 1 Live Lounge with a target audience of (15-29) is what I will refer to.

Radio producers appeal to a wide range of audiences taste and ages through mainstream programming. Radios will look as genres of music therefore will produce programmes that target a range of different genres. However they may also target specific audiences such as Absolute Radio 70's, 80's and 90's. Presenters will also bring in specific types of listeners based on the language they use, the work they have done and the music they play.

One way that the producers of Live Lounge attempt to target their audiences by the acoustic sessions that are available to stream online this allows more young people to listen as they spend more time online. As well as by choosing correct artists like Mahalia can also gain young listeners. As well as when a singer like Mahalia covers a song by Lewis Capaldi a more popular singer this can gain listeners. Also the different Jamaican style music will interest young listeners and people from that culture.

Overall Radio 1 Live Lounge is available to listen to online, which means that it can target a wide audience using technology and the younger audience who are more likely to consume radio online than via the more traditional methods. Also by having a less popular different style artist sing a more popular song which is more common also creates a wide range of listeners.
