Case Study Research

Who does what?
  • Director - Decides how the film should look, sound and what camera angles to use. Main duties include casting, script editing, shot composition, shot selection and editing. Must also pay attention to the budget and schedule.
  • Producer - Sorts out financing, hires main cast and directors, solves problems and is in complete control of the project. Ultimately accountable for the film's success or failure.
  • Screen Writer(s) - Writes the screenplay/ script for film.
What does a production or distribution company do?

  • Production Company - A production company helps to create the film its assists in the budging, scheduling, scripting, casting and more. The company usually looks over the film from when its just an idea to completion. They are responsible for finding a director and much of the acting talent required. However, they are also responsible if anything were to go wrong on the film, for example an actor being injured or property being damaged.
  • Distributor/Distribution Company - Sends the film out into the world deciding where and when the film will show and also promote the film.

Narrative

  • In the beginning we see the set up for the story of young adults who have a certain disease that if they go near each other if could cause fatal damage. In the middle we see the two main characters having to stay five feet apart because of their diseases however fall in love. In the end the two main characters go closer to each other which ends up with each of them causing damage to themselves.
  • The most important event that happens is when the main characters go closer than five feet to each other.
  • The story would change if the events happened in a different order as the story would be based around what happened after they went closer than five feet.
  • We know were the story takes place based on setting and weather.
  • The story is about two people that fall in love even though they have to stay five feet away from each other.
  • The story takes place over a few months.
  • Before the story began it would have just been the young adults living their lives with the disease and how they handle it.
  • After the story it would of been how they handled the events of the ending.
  • If reminds me of other stories of how people fall in love know matter the boundaries.
Narrative Theory: Todorov - a film's narrative is the story of the film and is broken down into 5 key stages by theorist Tzvetan Todorov:
  • Equilibrium - everything in the film world is normal (not necessarily good, but it is normal).
  • Disruption - something happens (usually caused by the film's main antagonist) to disrupt life.
  • Recognition of disruption - the protagonist/s realise that something is wrong in their world or discover the disruption.
  • Attempt to solve disruption - the main protagonist goes on a journey to solve the disruption.
  • New equilibrium - the disruption is solved and a new normality occurs (things can never be same as they were before the disruption, but a new 'normal life' is created).


My film has a non-linear narrative.
I can not break down my film into the five narrative stages as it is a non-linear narrative film.

Film Unit - Lesson 15

Lights! Camera! Action! Learning Objective: - to develop an effective film marketing strategy  Movie Marketing; Release date - January 2021 gives time.  Case Study: Genre - action, spy. People who like action, adventure movies so therefore uses guns and mystery. Dark colour, reflections the confusion of the film. Like a different universe. Using Trailers: Trailers are shown across different platforms - cinemas, TV, online. Distributors have to decide when to release the trailer/s; what else the audience would watch; what films to link it to; where and when it would get the most exposure. Hobbs and Shaw, the Joker, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Birds of Prey. In India it was the Joker because it is a different audience so different movies will appeal to them. Originally for July 17, 2020 in IMAX but delayed until July 31. My Poster would be displayed outside cinemas, maybe side of buses. Trailer would be on YouTube and before other movies in the Cinema.
