Disaster Movies
Disaster movies are a popular sub-genre of action adventure films. Examples include: Independence Day, 2012, The Day After Tomorrow, Armageddon, 28 Days Later, I am Legend, The Book of Eli and War of the Worlds.
I've seen 2 of the top 15 disaster movies. My favourite was The Impossible because of how the family find their way back to each other after a terrible tragedy.
Disaster Movie Genre Conventions
Movie: The Impossible, The Titanic and World War Z
- Both in these movies.
- The Impossible and World War Z
- The Impossible - natural, The Titanic - natural?, World War Z - zombies
- World War Z and The Impossible
- The Impossible (travel then the disaster happens). Titanic (travel onto the disaster)
- In all films many people die and all have to travel, they all overcome the problem but not fully.
Genre Conventions
Independence Day:
- not characters seen
- city on fire with possible alien ship over it
- city is on fire
- none
- the bright blue ship will light up the city as attract attention as it is different and stands out.
- clear something major to do with aliens a attack on a city.
- small title shows it is not as important as the main image

Godzilla:
- just monsters?
- destroyed place on fire
- monsters fighting?
- none
- blue of the monsters can easily be seen on the fire floor
- a massive attack of monsters
- Godzilla in the same blue to stand out on the black ground
