Radio 1 introduced Live Lounge after the internet became popular to listen to music which meant Radio 1 lost customers. They introduced Live Lounge to regain listeners. Convergence - Is the merging of mass communication outlets. Watershed - The strict rules of what can be show before 9 pm on the TV. Segmented market - Process of dividing a broad customer or a business' market, normally potential future customers divided into different group based on their activity. Mainstream - Used to refer to the various large mass news media that influence many people. Self - regulating - It involves controlling a persons behaviour. Music Video Sound

Explain one way in which music videos use media language to differ from each other. Refer to one example of contrasting media language in two music videos you have studied to support your answer. Music videos use media language such as the use of colour to create different effects to fit the meaning of the song and the musicians' image. Teenage Dirtbag and Sk8er Boi use very different post-production techniques. Teenage Dirtbag has a very colourful theme to create a more of a brighter and happy effect. This effect helps to reinforce the happier and funner narrative that is being explored. On the other hand Sk8er Boi has a de-saturated darker look, where the colours are darker theme to create a monochrome effect. This serious narrative relates to a rebellious audience.

Explain one way in which music videos use media language to differ from each other. Refer to one example of contrasting media language in two music videos you have studied to support your answer.  Music videos use media language such as the use of colour to create different effects to fit the meaning of the song and the musicians image. Sk8er Boi and Teenage Dirtbag have both similarities and differences in their videos. Teenage Dirtbag is very stereotypical when using the average American love story that would relate to the audience well by using bright colours making it more main stream. Where as Sk8er Boi has more of a rebellious theme using darker colours that would relate to a different target audience. Teenage Dirtbag uses the main character from American Pie in their video attracting the target audience because it is drawing on the success of American Pie with a main stream audience. Comparing Music Magazine Covers

There are some very clear differences between Top of the Pops and The Source magazines in terms of there colour pallet and media language. Both magazines have featured a wide range of different musicians on the front cover, however this time Top of the Pops has chosen to use a medium close up of singer Jessie J whilst The Source also has a medium close up but of a completely different, Dr Dre. Both magazines follow the conventional magazine front cover layout scheme though their use of relevant music-related over lines. The use of cover lines and relevant images link with the specific genre of the magazine. It is obvious to see that both mastheads are very different in their colour scheme. It is clear to see Top of the Pops is in a pink and sparkly colour which would attract young girls. It is bright and stands out and would catch most peoples eyes but mainly girls. Where as The Source is in a dark grey colour which suggests its older target audience as it isn't bright not very...

Mojo Exam Case Study

Mojo magazine was first published 25 years ago and since then has featured a wide range of artists mostly around the genre of rock. The primary target audience of Mojo is 35 years plus, predominantly males who have a serious interest in music. Mojo magazine is said to be 'The Music Expert'. Mojo magazine has featured a range of musicians over the years.  This particular cover will appeal to this target audience as it features a throwback theme through using a low angle medium closeup of the iconic band  Fleetwood Mac. The main image is a recent shot of the band members in a very formal basic way with all members looking straight forward, the angle connotes them as God like. The black and white theme would appeal to the primary target audience with the serious choice of colours and the nostalgic as the target audience would remember when older magazines would be in all black and white.
